Technology platform – DNA-HIVE

Technology platform

Our solutions are bult on a top of open source-based HIVE digital healthcare technology platform that provides end-to-end solutions for manufacturers, healthcare professionals and biomedical researchers. Our platform integrates high-performance, heterogeneous computational hardware, distributed storage and archival system for extra-large datasets, massively parallelized analytical software, standardization engine, blockchain driven auditable provenance and security subsystems to protect data and guarantee patient and researcher privacy

Secure storage and archival

The unique infrastructure underneath the hood of the platform provides distributed storage and computing framework that is unparallelled in the industry in performance and security. Every single file, every single patient information unit is sliced and striped into differently encrypted amorphous blobs of bytes and bits and sent for storage into different locations; the enryption algortihms and matadata of reconstruction information is sent to blockchain that maintains the decription keys, reconstituion pointers and consent forms encrypted once more with data owners (patient) credentials. In an unlikely event of compromising patients credential and any subset of computing or storage units, no single patient information can be recovered, and no single measurement can be recovered across clinical trials, real-world data  or genomic datasets.

Data standardization and harmonization

HIVE honeycomb data model was specifically created for adopting complex hierarchy of scientific datatypes, providing a platform for standardization of data within the framework of object-oriented data models. Being developed in collaboration with scientists from NIH, FDA, NCBI, NCI, NIST, and CDC, it conforms to data prototypes (e.g. Hl7, FHIR RWD/PRO; STDM, ADaM clinical; FASTQ, VCF -omics; DICOM, TIFF Images) and ontologies (e.g. Gene, Disease, Tissue, Taxonomy) accepted by regulatory and research scientific organizations. By using an integrated data-engine, blockchain’s data supply chain and immutable distribution engine, HIVE contributes to the veracity of biomedical informatics and helps ensure provenance of biomedical data and reproducibility of bio-computational analytics through BioCompute standardization paradigm.

Example HIVE platform applications

FDA big data, genomics data and health technology/device applications of HIVE provide a secure healthcare biomedical data ecosystem for research. We maintain an integrator platform with standardization and harmonization of data combined with high performance analytics tailored for stakeholder/client needs. Distributed storage and computation environment and a multicomponent cloud infrastructure supports the development of real-world data ecosystems including registries. HIVE provides secure web access for authorized users to deposit, retrieve, annotate, and compute on biomedical big data; and integrates patient-facing mobile apps to collect patient-reported outcomes.

Blockchain and provenance platform

HIVE has number of use cases for Blockchain; a novel technology that advances data safety, security, and reliability through the (1) assurance of immutable data provenance, (2) implementation of smart contracting, and (3) implementation of the electronic consent form and helps build trust with diverse group of stakeholders. HIVE blockchain enables various stakeholders to securely share their data within an ecosystem, which in turn can increase the velocity of research. We have applications to reduce the fraud research and ensure high quality data collection.

Clinically Meaningful Device Attributes

HIVE is enabled to create and integrate device libraries that can be used for identification of devices and their attributes for device research and surveillance. The libraries enable focus on individual device, device categories, or device characteristics. The libraries are enabled to link and enhance the capacity of the FDA’s GUDID for research and surveillance. For example, our partners groups created device library for orthopedics; a global, standardized classification system of hip and knee implantable devices. HIVE can link this system to FDA GUDID to advance the implementation of unique device identifiers and FDA post-market surveillance.

Mobile app collaborative platform

HIVE mobile apps engine integrated with HIVE technology provides novel and robust means of capturing data through patient-facing and physician-facing portals. We ensure that patients are motivated stakeholder rather than a source of data. Our apps ensure that patients stay engaged because we address privacy concerns and send them valuable information back. We currently support various HIVE projects in orthopedics, women’s health technologies and cancer settings. Patient and physician registry mobile app platforms are being developed to support national and international collaborations.
